StoryTeller of the Fur Trade Era

Is your Company, or Organization, interested in a Story Teller? Slides, pictures, Indian artifacts, trade beads, and trade bead necklaces aid the StoryTeller in his "yarn spinning" of the Fur Trade and those involved with exploration of the Oregon Country.

The stories of the Oregon Country, the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the Astorians, and the mountain men of the Canadian and Indian fur trade are factual, but with enough story telling to make the participants feel as though they were there.

Spiral bound copies of the articles on thefurtrapper site are given away at the StoryTeller presentations.

A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine by profession, Dr. Eddins was born and now reside near Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  The Council for Indian Education published, Mountains of Stone, his first historical novel. Mountains of Stone is concerned with the effects of the first explorers, trappers, and traders on Native Americans of the Plains and Rocky Mountains. By horse and pack string, he has ridden many of the trails described in his writings and talks. The campfires of Dr. Eddins have been built in the same places as those of mountain men and explorers one hundred and ninety years ago.

Dr. Eddins was an approved judge of the American Quarter Horse and the American Paint Horse Associations as well as a certified ski instructor.  Currently, he is researching and writing Winds of Change, the sequel to Mountains of Stone. The emphasis of Winds of Change is directed toward the impact of the Fur Trade on Native Americans.

If your group has not decided on a location for it's meeting, the ideal place to listen to the StoryTeller is in the heart of the fur country. Teton Valley was the location of the 1829 and 1832 Mountain Man Rendezvous. Following the 1832 Rendezvous, the largest battle between the Mountain Men and the Gros Ventre Indians occurred. Arrangements can be made for your meeting at Grand Targhee Ski and Summer Resort in Alta, Wyoming, which overlooks the Teton Valley.

Mountains of Stone contains an abridged account of the important aspects of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, as well as, some of the major Hudson's Bay and North West Company explorers. The extensive bibliography for Mountains of Stone served as background information on the articles for this website.

There have been many requests for copies of pictures from the website, and I have put the best pictures, and others from Jackson Hole, Yellowstone, Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, and Star Valley, Wyoming, on a CD.
